Our Approach

Our Solution

Steps to Success

Support Rwanda to achieve Vision 2020 and targets set in the Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy II, which aim to boost the productivity of agriculture while increasing forest cover and improving the sustainability of natural resources and biodiversity. This will require scaling up successful tree-based forest and landscape restoration (FLR) approaches that improve crop and livestock practices, food security, and farmer income as well as trainings for farmers and extension service on the benefits of tree-based FLR. The opportunity for restoration in Rwanda is high, with 600.000 ha that need to be restored urgently and 2Mha that need agroforestry interventions. To respond to this challenge, the Government of Rwanda plan to have a permanent tree nursery at every village.
Improve scientific evidence-based feedback loop for planning and implementing tree-based FLR in Rwanda. This includes capacity building of cost-effective methods for measuring change at scale over time and harmonization around a national and public forestry platform that shares environmental and socioeconomic progress of tree-based FLR across Rwanda.
Expand opportunities for investment in tree-based FLR over the long term by creating enabling conditions for social enterprises, donors and investors.
Support Rwanda to meet its international development and environmental commitments such as the Sustainable Development Goals, Nationally Determined Contribution, Convention for Biodiversity, and Land Degradation Neutrality target.
