Conservation International (CI)

Alice Ruhweza
Vice President of Programmes and Partnerships

For more than 30 years, Conservation International (CI) has worked to protect nature guided by the principle that people need nature. Through cutting-edge science, innovative policy and global reach, CI empowers people to protect nature and livelihoods. CI has staff in over 30 countries and works closely with thousands of local partners.

CI has developed tools for monitoring terrestrial, coastal and marine ecosystems that aim to communicate the importance of nature for communities, and guide governments, policymakers and other key stakeholders in understanding the competing priorities at landscape/seascape level and the complex trade-offs between human activity, ecosystems and human well-being.

CI is an accredited agency for the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and has supported over 15 countries in Africa to access over $100 million in environmental finance from these two entities
