The Yonge Nawe Manyeveni Land Rehabilitation Project is an initiative in the Shiselweni region, Kubuta constituency, directly benefiting 47 homesteads and rehabilitating 14 hectares of degraded land.
With an initial investment of USD 15,000.00 from the Eswatini Environment Fund, the community fenced off 5 hectares to support natural vegetation regeneration and installed gabion baskets to stabilize two dongas. Additional contributions included USD 5,500.00 from Eswatini Water and Agricultural Enterprise (EWADE) and an in-kind contribution of USD 7,000.00 from the Ministry of Agriculture (Dept. of Land Use Planning and Development), bringing the total project value to USD 27,500.00.
Key interventions included donga stabilization earthworks, planting 160 indigenous trees to improve soil health and climate resilience, and introducing 10 beehives to support community livelihoods. Additionally, 35 early-maturing fruit trees were planted to enhance food security and economic opportunities for the newly formed community association.
Through this initiative, four homesteads previously threatened by the donga have been protected, ensuring long-term benefits for the community.
