Jane Goodall Institute (JGI)

Dr. Lilian Pintea
Vice President of Conservation Science

Founded in 1977 by British primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall, the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) is a global wildlife and environment conservation organization. Dr. Jane spent years studying the lives of chimpanzees, leading to a breakthrough approach to species conservation.

The Institute advances the vision and work of Dr. Jane to lead a movement of conservation for the common good – one that builds on the connections between people, fellow species, and the natural world. Following in the trailblazing footsteps of its founder, JGI inspires hope through action, encouraging individuals around the world to take care of the planet. Whether restoring chimpanzee habitat, improving women’s health in a nearby village, or working with its Roots & Shoots youth groups in nearly 100 countries, the Jane Goodall Institute finds practical ways to make lasting impact for people, animals and the environment.

With a focus on conservation science, JGI uses advanced science and technology to help local communities identify their needs and develop conservation action plans (CAPs) they can implement with success. These tools and practices provide the accurate, up-to-date information local communities need to create, monitor and evaluate their own conservation action plans.
