Theme: Monitoring AFR100 Implementation to Attract More Investments for Land Restoration in Africa
Location: Blantyre, Malawi
The 6th AFR100 Annual Partnership Meeting (APM) will bring together political partners, participating African countries, and technical and financial partners to harmonize investments, share knowledge and replicate best practices in an effort to scale-up forest and landscape restoration in Africa. Building on the announcement of Phase II of AFR100 at the UN COP26 last November, this year's APM will take place in Blantyre, Malawi from June 27 to July 1, 2022. Untied 32 countries, the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100) is a Pan-African initiative that is uniting thousands of community organizations, enterprises, and government agencies to begin restoring 100 million hectares of degraded and deforested land by 2030.
Major activities of sixth AFR100 APM
The 6th AFR100 APM meeting will be built around the following four major activities:
- Second monitoring workshop, where the AFR100 monitoring platform will be presented, discussed and validated.
- Field trip to Lake Chilwa to showcase successful restoration activities in Malawi and to interact with national partners.
- AFR100 Country Day, where member countries will present their major achievements, challenges and opportunities related to AFR100 implementation since the last year's APM (held in Kigali, Rwanda).
- Official Annual Partnership Meeting, which will: a) present lessons learned from the first phase of AFR100 (2015-2021) and b) explore innovative financing and monitoring techniques that will accelerate restoration across Africa.
