The Fourth AFR100 Annual Partnership Meeting will bring together leadership from 28 partner countries, restoration champions, private sector representatives, and technical experts to Accra, Ghana. The meeting will be held back-to-back with the 2019 Global Landscapes Forum Africa.
The African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative (AFR100) is a Pan-African initiative to restore 100 million hectares of land by 2030. To date, 28 African countries have pledged to restore 113 million hectares through the AFR100 Initiative and the Bonn Challenge, surpassing the commitment goal. Twenty-eight technical and 12 financial partners are supporting AFR100. The Initiative is owned and led by Africa: The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) is the AFR100 Secretariat and African stakeholders — from community leaders and smallholder farmers, to government representatives at all levels and investors — drive the agenda.
AFR100 is a country-led platform that inspires communities, governments and businesses to restore land and helps enable conditions to scale up restoration implementation
- Countries are translating ambitious political commitments into action on the ground by developing restoration strategies and systems to measure progress.
- Businesses are generating profits and creating jobs by restoring land. A growing network of restoration entrepreneurs is transforming landscapes and livelihoods.
- Communities have delivered some of the largest-scale restoration successes in Africa. Community leaders are partnering with governments, technical experts, and investors to scale up their efforts even further.
AFR100 helps its partners implement actions in support of two United Nations campaigns: the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030) and the UN Decade on Family Farming (2019-2028). Through implementing landscape restoration, countries and other partners will contribute to these UN-mandated goals and ultimately help thousands of rural communities thrive throughout the 28 member countries.
