Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)

Peter Saile
Senior Forests Advisor

GIZ provides services worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ has over 50 years of experience in a wide variety of areas, including economic development and employment, energy and the environment, and peace and security. The diverse expertise of this federal enterprise is in demand around the globe, with the German Government, European Union institutions, the United Nations and governments of other countries all benefiting from GIZ’s services. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is the main commissioning party, but we also work with the private sector, fostering successful interaction between development policy and foreign trade.

In 2015, GIZ business volume exceeded 2.1 billion euros. Of our 17,319 staff in over 130 countries, around 70 per cent are national personnel working in the field.

In AFR100 GIZ assists BMZ in getting the initiative started and works with a three year commission with government and non government partners in four AFR100 countries: Ethiopia, Cameroon, Madagascar and Togo.
